Breathing

One thing that sets me apart, is that I look at your breathing mechanics, posture and how they work together. Whether you are pregnant, postpartum, or have an injury; functional breathing mechanics is essential to the healing process. We breath on average 20,000 times per day.

Functional breathing patterns (FBP) could be the missing link for dealing with constant anxiety or stress. Functional breathing also helps stimulate the Vagus Nerve. The Vagus Nerve when stimulated activates the parasympathetic nervous system and puts us into that calm relaxed state and helps with digestion, heart rate and lung control. If we are not breathing optimally, then we stay in that sympathetic nervous system or “fight or flight” state. The fight or flight state is great when we encounter a Mountain Lion but not so great for daily living.

Functional breathing also helps our lymphatic system function efficiently. The lymphatic system is the garbage disposal system of the body. It takes the waste products from all of the organs and gets rid of it for us. The lymphatic system also helps fight infections, colds, cancer and even Covid 19. The lymphatic system also helps regulate hormone control. When you breathe correctly and deeply it helps pump the lymphatic system. I’m hoping now you are now starting to see why breathing is so important.

The next and most important reason we look at breathing is the relationship between the diaphragm and the pelvic floor and how they move together as we breathe. Injuries, trauma, pregnancy, birthing or other reasons can disturb that balance. When we have poor functioning pelvic floor, we start to see things like urine leakage, prolapse, constipation, pelvic pain, SI joint pain, low back pain just to name a few. Which is why the importance of restoring our breathing patterns can be the key to stubborn pain, injuries and even just our general health and well-being.

It is so important to your health to breathe correctly!
